Attractions
The story of the battle of Normandy is told in our museums, historical
sites and places of remembrance.
1066: Falaise was the birthplace of William, Duke of Normandy, later
known as The Conqueror on his return from the Battle of Hastings after
he was crowned King of England. Nine centuries later, one morning in
June 1944, the Allies landed on the shores of Calvados. Here the bloody
Battle of Normandy and the conquest for liberty began.
Sporting Attractions
From the borders of the "Bocage" to the Seine Estuary, from
the rocks of Swiss Normandy to the beaches of the Pearl Coast, frm the
hills of the Pays d'Auge to the cliffs of the Besson, the variety of
Calvados' assets awaits your discovery "a la carte"! Country
sports for some, windsports or watersports for others; where nature is
rich choice is naturally rich.
Entertainment
Each season has its pleasures, each town and seaside resort its
personality. Food fairs, festivals or concerts, exhibitions or sports
competitions, events lead on into the other and provide the visitor with
a rich and varied programme. Indeed some of our events are
internationally well known and thus carry the reputation of Calvados far
beyond the boundaries of the our French shores.
